EOS M  adalah Digital Single Lens kamera non-refleks pertama Canon. Segala sesuatu yang baru dari EOS M terpadu dengan menyatukan semua kecanggihan dari teknologi EOS Canon sehingga mampu menciptakan sebuah kamera interchangeable lens/penggantian jenis lensa yang sangat revolusioner dan sangat canggih dalam berbagai dan didesgn dalam bentuk yang sangat ringkas namun tetap elegan. 

Ditambah dengan antarmuka multi layar sentuh yang canggih dan memudahkan pengguna dalam mengoperasikan dan menggunakan kameranya, EOS M adalah kamera EOS paling mudah digunakan yang juga dilengkapi dengan teknologi pencitraan yang kuat seperti 18 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor dan mesin pencitraan DIGIC 5, yang berkemampuan menyediakan tingkat ketajaman dan kecerdasan fotografi yang sama dengan kamera DSLR.

Tidak jauh berbeda dengan kamera sejenis EOS M Kit (EF M18-55) dengan warna body hitam dan merah dibandingkan dengan label merk EOS M Kit II dan EOS M Kit III yang mempunyai spesifikasi yang sama, hanya saja kedua jenis kamera tersebut memiliki lensa yang berbeda di tiap produknya. Seperti EOS M Kit II yang menggunakan lensa EF M22 & adapter dan hanya tersedia dalam warna body hitam saja. Sedangkan yang membedakan dengan yang lain EOS M Kit III menggunakan lensa EF M18-55, M22 & 90EX dan tersedia dalam 4 warna body yang lebih lengkap yaitu merah, hitam, silver dan putih.

1. Ringkas, ringan dan mobile EOS
   Ukuran dan berat kamera digital yang drastis mampu dikurangi dengan mengganti viewfinder / AF / AE / kontrol fungsi-pencahayaan kamera D-SLR  dengan fungsi-fungsi digital yang berdasarkan pada elemen pencitraan.
2. Kompatibel dengan lensa EOS dan aksesori yang lain
   Lensa EF & EF-S yang sudah ada (melalui Mount Adapter EF-EOS M) dan aksesori EOS yang lain dapat digunakan dalam kamera EOS-M. Di dalam kamera ini juga terdapat Speedlites, penerima GPS GP-E2 dan Remote controller RC-6 yang juga dapat digunakan.

   Continuous auto-fokus selama perekaman film dimungkinkan dengan semua lensa (melalui Mount adaptor EF- M untuk lensa EF / EF-S).
